making goals togetherTucson, Ariz. - (May 5, 2010) NASA has teamed up with Beads of Courage to bring hope and inspiration to children battling serious illnesses through the Beads in Space project. Handcrafted beads made by artists across North America will be on board NASA's STS-132 mission.
If you are a professional or amateur athlete we invite you to join Team Beads of Courage (Team BOC). Every participating member of Team BOC will be a source of encouragement for a child with a serious illness, while providing support for our organization through a tax-deductible donation.
Connecting kindness, compassion and courage Every bead goes on a journey. It starts with an artist who made the bead, it joins an athlete in training, and makes it way to a child in treatment as a source of encouragement. Connecting the kindness of others with a courageous child. Team BOC - a random act of kindness in its purest form. how it works- Athlete emails or faxes their entry form and makes a donation to Beads of Courage.
- Beads of Courage mails athlete materials and assigns athlete a Beads of Courage team bead.
- All participating athletes receive 2 beads. One bead they keep - building their own collection of team beads - a symbol of their support of children coping with serious illness.
- One bead is returned to Beads of Courage after the athlete's event and passed along to a child in treatment in need of a boost of encouragement.
- Athlete is encouraged to wear one of their team beads during their training and at the main event/race/competition.
- We would like the athlete to email team@beadsofcourage.org a photo of themselves with their Beads of Courage team bead.
- This is so the child who ultimately receives their team bead can locate their athlete.
- Athlete returns one of the team beads to Beads of Courage with a note of encouragement after completing their event. This bead and note is then distributed to any one of our member hospitals who will get it to a child or teen in treatment.
