Horses are a popular sight in December,
pulling a jingle-bell sleigh and giddy-upping in a wonderland of
snow. Traditionally, horses represent strength, grace, nobility and
freedom. In Chinese Astrology, 2014 is the Year of the Horse.
The Horse Bead is dedicated to Beads of
Courage member Liviya Anderson, who has adored horses since she was
two years old. Liviya was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia at
age six and was treated with ATG, a purified animal serum that came
from a horse.
Liviya says, "Horses are courage to
me. If horses didn't have the courage to give blood, if they ran
away, that would not show courage. But, lining up outside a barn,
knowing they have to get a needle in order to give blood, that is
courageous and because horses are courageous, they saved my life."
Each year, Liviya's mom Rebekah and
other moms in North Carolina hold a fundraising event called the Mom
Prom. It's the ultimate Ladies' Night Out for charity and proceeds
benefit the Aplastic Anemia & MDS Research Foundation and Beads
of Courage, among other organizations. Since 2010, the Mom Prom has
raised over $30,000 for Beads of Courage programs in North Carolina.
It's only natural that Livia's dream
bead was a horse. The Horse Bead was made by Jessi, a Beads of
Courage member, and presented to Liviya at the 2012 Mom Prom.
This month, make a donation of $25 to
Beads of Courage and receive a majestic Horse Bead to add to your
collection. The Horse Bead may be sent as a gift by entering the
Shipping Address of the recipient when ordering. Shipping is FREE in
the continental US! Please select "International" when
ordering if recipient is located outside the continental US.
